Kat's graduation from Kindergarten

She's graduated! My little girl is moving on to First Grade next school year :-)

Tomorrow is the last day of school. Boy, the year sure went fast.

We attended a little ceremony they had in her classroom this past Wednesday. The kids sang some songs, and then the teachers handed them their 'graduation' packet, which contained their report card and some other items. Hmm.. wondering why there was no teacher parent meeting at year end.

Anyways, Kat is doing OK in school. She is marked as proficient in all aspects academically. However the teacher noted she does not know her address and phone number. Well, she knows the one in California, I think! We just haven't told her what those info is for our place here in ABQ :-)

Kindergarten has seen Kat grow leaps and bounds academically. We had put her into a play-based preschool and so she struggled with Kindergarten initially. She was not used to the homework routine, and concentrating (which is still a struggle, but much better).

I have to thank her teacher in CA, Mr. Spencer who really pushed his kids, and though it made her not like school that much, it made her better. On the other hand, Ms. Ray here in ABQ, is a very bubbly and cheerful teacher, and made learning fun again for Kat. She teaches mainly through songs, poems and rhymes and Kat loves that. She is writing down sentences in her own spelling, based on how she thinks the words sounds like. Phonetically she needs work on this. That will be what we work on this summer.

Yes, summer... 3 months off. Goodness.. how am I going to keep the kids occupied???? As it is, the girls are already fighting those couple of hours when Kat gets back from school! I have some things in mind. But will see whether it will work out.

Library - at least once a week
Swimming - once a week
Albuquerque outing - e.g. zoo, aquarium, Explora (children's museum),
Ballet - once a week, starting in July
School work - Start Chloe on her alphabets, numbers; Kat - reading, math, and completing the book 'What your kindergartner needs to know' (I really enjoy this book)
Helping me cook?

Anymore suggestions?

Field trip to a nearby park, where the kids played water balloons, bubbles, face painting, etc.
