February 2010 updates

The Big Move!

We moved (again!). This time to Colorado, the Centennial State. We moved at the end of January and came just when it was really, really cold. It is really beautiful with a view of the now capped mountains. But I must say grey snowy days are pretty and also a little depressing :-)

Thankfully my parents were still around, and so they were a big, big help during the move.
The kids miss them immensely.

We also miss Albuquerque. I loved the house we had there, the city and also the friends we made. It was a place we would have loved to stay for much longer. But fate has brought us here to Colorado and so we shall make the most of it!

Chinese New Year

We welcomed the Year of the Tiger here.

We have been very lucky so far to have met several Malaysian/Singaporeans from the Denver and Colorado Springs area. We were invited to Auntie Lily's open house for CNY eve. Thank you! And to Peng's house for the 7th day CNY celebration. That was a lot of fun as well :-)

The Saturday before Chap Goh Mei, we invited our old friend from California, Will and his family over for dinner. It was so nice seeing him again and just catching up.

What we have been up to

We have been busy exploring fun things to do and restaurants to eat. So far we have found a couple of restaurants that we like - San Chang House for Korean, Pho 54 for Vietnamese, Sakura for Japanese and Star Kitchen for dim sum. We have also found places for Char Siu and Siu Yoke. So all is well!

I have also joined the local MOMS club, but have yet to attend any playgroups yet because the kids and I have had slight colds. But I have brought them to the local library for toddler time, and also to Chick-Fil-A for playdate time.

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science was also very interesting. We spent about 2 hours there and only covered one floor. We get free entrance with our membership to the New Mexico Museum of Natural History, so we will definitely be back there to explore the entire museum!

My cooking

Ah ha! My husband has declared that my cooking skills are slowly improving. LOL! He says it's because of the influence of so many good cooks we have recently met. It is one of my goals this year to cook more yummy and healthy meals for my family. So I am quite pleased he is acknowledging my efforts :-)

I made Yee Sang for the first time for CNY. And per Will and family, it was quite delicious. I say it was only 80% there, but 'boleh tahan, lah!'

I finally found the recipe book my mom gave me. I think I might try cooking at least 2 recipes from the book each week. Hmm... yes, yes.. will definitely try.

The Kids

The kids are growing up so fast.

Kat seems to be adjusting well to school and has already picked up some mandarin words. So we are pleased about that. I also like her teacher here who seems to really take an interest to her. I got a call from her the other day and we talked about how Kat is a very bright student and she loves having her in class. But she noticed that she is not putting 100% effort in her work, and is also somewhat dreamy. I appreciated her call and I told her it was something we also noticed and am trying to work with her.

Chloe is going to be 3 soon. And she is so cute. The things she says just makes you laugh. But the 'clever' things she does also sometimes make me go crazy!! She is a smart girl, but sometimes smarts gets her into so much trouble. Aiyaiyai....
She is looking forward to going to school next Fall. I can't wait for her to start learning, and am planning to at least start on her alphabets. But I was telling hubby we might get a lot of calls from school about her behaviour. Will see!

Aiden is now officially a toddler. He toddlers around the house, getting better at it each passing day. And he is getting more vocal. He will shake his head to tell me no and point his fingers to things that he wants. He loves books like his sisters. He can hold his own against Chloe now. They frequently have screaming contests between them. He will shout at her if she takes his things. But he loves them, and especially his oldest sister.

He calls his sisters "CheChe" and his father "Dada". He calls me "MaMa".
I swear he said "No" the other day whilst shaking his head. And he also babbles 'Nana' for banana. The boy is still very picky about his food and does not take very much at all. One thing he does like to eat though is macaroni and cheese. I have to cut it up very fine, because this boy will just swallow and not chew the pasta at all!

Hubby is enjoying Aiden more now. The funny thing we noticed that when we are at home, that boy is pretty much stuck to me. But once we are out of the house, he likes his daddy to hold him instead. It is quite bizarre.

Hubby has been quite the super daddy. He brought all 3 kids out to breakfast by himself, while I went for a hair cut. And he brought Aiden and Kat out for grocery shopping while Chloe took a nap and I took a shower at home. Ah... there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

I guess that is all for now. I have chores to catch up with, and also continuing professional education I need to do for my accounting license ;P
But will try to blog more. Good-night!
