Aiden is 1!

My little boy is now 1. Hooray! How fast time flies :-)
I say that too often..

But it is true. A whole year has passed and my baby is now almost a toddler. He is taking a couple of steps at a time, but he is not too steady yet.

He is taking solid food a little better now, but still not very good. He is very particular with his food. For example, he does not like anything slimy and runny, so no baby food at all. Things must taste good.. so no jarred baby food again (those are quite yucky). He prefers salty things over sweet things. Though ice cream is the exception. He does not like juice, which is contributing to him getting slightly constipated these days. He knows which cookies he likes, and will turn away if you offer him anything he is not interested in. What can I say? This boy is a bit of a foodie.

To celebrate his birthday, we invited some friends and our neighbours over to the house.
It was a last minute event because we were moving a couple of days after. Initially we didn't want to have a party, but we decided to since it is his first.

Thank you to those who did show up. It was very nice seeing you all before we left New Mexico.
And of course, thank you for the gifts for Aiden. I think he had a good time.

Since Grandpa and Grandma Yoon was here visiting, we also performed the Chinese birthday picking ceremony earlier. Traditionally, on the child's first lunar birthday, a tray of items would be offered to the child. Each item on the tray represents something with the child's future. Whatever the child chooses would give a clue to his future. For example, I chose the book, and I was a bookworm and is quite good in my studies. My brother chose a chicken drumstick, and he is now working in the food industry (and also enjoys good food, as do I.. heehee).

So what did Aiden choose? It took a long time for him to decide. He was surveying the tray for quite awhile, contemplating between the red egg and the calculator. In the end, he reached out for the calculator and got hold of the calculator AND a Ang Pow (red packet with money in it). Bonus!! So maybe it is an indication that he will be in business or the financial industry, and he will be blessed with prosperity.

On a side note, all my 3 kids picked the calculator out of the tray. Though I think we scared Kat at the time of her picking because the camera wasn't ready (Lots of shouting of 'NO!!'). I had a feeling she wanted the red egg instead but didn't dare take it after we did all that shouting.

Birthday cake. Boy, that icing was really blue.
Every one's mouth was all blue after eating it. Hahaha!

Birthday boy and his presents. Check out his new pair of shoes from Grandpa and Grandma Yoon.

Happy Birthday, my darling boy. Mommy, Daddy and your sisters wish you all the best and hope you know we love you to pieces.

Have heard of this practice, but didn't do it with Sophie. Will try to remember to try it with Julian, seems like it's pretty accurate for you & your brother!
