I have to be honest. I am an addict...
To my iPhone.
Seriously... I find myself reaching for it every time I see it.
Oh, it is so easy just to see whether I have new mail; what latest updates have my friends made on Facebook; what's the weather like, etc...
I caught bits and pieces of 2 recent Oprah episodes on TV this past 2 weeks.
The first was an episode with Peter Walsh with the Stripped Down challenge. It is a week long challenge with no phones or electronics i.e. just family, all the time. Check it out here.
It made me realize how much I have been neglecting my kids whenever I become to engrossed with either my phone or my computer, or even the TV! The other day Kat asked me,
"Mommy, what are you doing on your computer? You don't work any more!"
"What are you looking at? That just looks like pictures"
And you know what? She is right. Sometimes taking one minute to check my emails turns into a 15 minutes of web surfing for me, which means 15 minutes of ignoring my kids. Addicted to the Internet, I am. Sigh...
The second Oprah episode I feel is very important.
It is about texting and using the phone while driving. I don't do it very much, but I know hubby does (a lot!) and it is so not safe. Texting and talking on the phone while driving is just as dangerous as drunk driving.
Oprah's No Phone Pledge can be found at this link
I pledge to make my car a no phone zone
Beginning right now, I will do my part to put an end on distracted driving by not texting or using my phone while I am driving.
I will ask other drivers I know to do the same.
I pledge to make a difference.
So to my friends and family out there, please do not talk on the phone or text while driving.
Put the phone away and have some quiet time or a conversation with your kids or spouse instead. Be safe!

Don't worry, we are ALL addicted to the internet in some way...
I should forward your post to my husband...he's guilty of the iPhone crime...
Oh yes, I am also guilty of the internet addiction and have occasionally talked on the phone in the past. But sometimes, you gotta just do some things for yourself. 15 mins here and there could be nourishing for the soul!! :)
