A visit to the pumpkin patch

Halloween is this Saturday, and per our tradition, we have been going to a local pumpkin patch to get our pumpkins.

This year, hubby's co-worker told him about a pumpkin patch in Moriarty, which is about an hour away from our place. So we made plans with the Merritts and headed there one very cold and windy Sunday. And I think it was worth the drive and the admission costs :-)

There is so much to do there! Let's see there was:
  • Hayride to the u-pick pumpkin patch. They had sprayed something on the plants, so the vines had all dried up, so visitors can easily walk around. Unfortunately we came 1 week before Halloween, so it was slim pickings for us :-(
  • Hay pyramid
  • A really tall slide
  • 16 acre corn maze
  • Race carts with toy tractors
  • Petting zoo
  • One great big jumpy and a few smaller ones
  • Corn pit and sand pit
  • Dinosaur fossil dig zone for kids
  • Cow train ride for kids 2-8 years old

Honestly you could spend the whole day there!

We got really dirty and dusty though. The wind was really blowing and it made it really cold. In fact, this week is a unseasonably cold week. We are anticipating snow tonight. I already see snow on the Sandia Mountain :-) Really pretty.

Anyway, Happy Halloween to you. Hope you have a great one!

Family pic at the pumpkin patch. This is where the pumpkins are actually grown.
A little different from the pumpkin patches in the city, because those bring the pumpkins from the farm and display them there.

Conquering the hay pyramid

And the 16 acre corn maze. Apparently the questions were tough! At certain points in the maze, you get a questions. If you get them correct, the clues should lead you out of the maze.

The girls loved the corn pit. I like it too because they get to play like it was a sand pit, but you don't get all the dirtiness associated with sand :-)
Aiden didn't want anything to do with it though..

The little 'cow train' for the little kids. Pretty good way to recycle old plastic canisters. The 'train' was pulled by a small John Deere tractor. It was cute.

These are the kind of activities we miss living in bland Singapore... :(
