Aiden at 8 months

Aiden turned 8 months old today. So fast, so fast!

Some of you might know from my Facebook status update that I attempted to sleep train him 2 nights ago. That of course, ended up in a disaster. He cried for 25 minutes the first time. And all the time he was crying, I literally got the chills and felt sick to my stomache and felt like throwing up. I caved him because he screamed so loudly that I had to go see how he has doing. Of course he was fine, because he was well secured in the crib.

Then I nursed him back to sleep and tried putting him down on my bed after 10 minutes. Nope, he woke up all squirmy and crying. So I decided to put him down again in his crib. This time I closed the door to his room completely. I had to go downstairs to hide, because I could not stand his crying any more. It just broke my heart.

Well, hubby came back home about 30 minutes later, and checked in on baby, who was still crying and screaming even louder now. A couple of minutes later, Aiden is in his Daddy's arms, who informs me our dear son had thrown up milk all over himself and the crib. Nice.....

Did I try again since then? No. I think I am mentally not ready yet. I know persistence is the key, but.....

Anyways, did some retail therapy the next day to mend my broken heart. Got 2 new pairs of shoes ;-) The part I don't understand is that hubby tagged along and ALSO got 2 new pairs of work shoes AND a winter peacoat. Hmmpph....

Back to Aiden and his progress:

He is now crawling!! Life is much easier now. I can plop him down in the playroom whilst a do some quick chores around the house e.g. cooking, sweeping the floor, laundry, etc....

But with this new found mobility comes a hatred for the car seat. Sigh.. we now have a screamer about 3/4 of the time we buckle him into the car seat. Initially it was 100% of the time right after he started creeping/crawling, so I must say his crying/screaming fits have lessened. But if he cries he will cry the entire journey. And we have done 30 minutes rides before. Hubby says he is just stubborn, apparently just like me.

So we have scrapped our initial plan of doing a road trip to Roswell, Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands National Area in SE New Mexico, because of this boy's crying in cars. And also because we are hosting a farewell party for hubby's boss that weekend. Will plan on going next summer instead!

Anyways, Aiden is still my happy and smiley baby at all other times. He loves 'playing' with his sisters now. If he sees them outside in the backyard, he would want to join them.

He still does not like baby food though. He is eating a little bit more, but not much. Though feed him small pieces of bread or muffin or baby rusks and he will eagerly open his mouth. And he is also a big fan of drinking water from his sippy cup. He can also drink water from my water container!

I don't know officially how much he weighs. Put him on our scale, and he is less than 17 lbs still. He is not a big baby at all. Which is OK by me because he is squirmy as ever now during diaper and clothing changes.

Happy 8 months old to my baby boy! Soon you will be 3/4 of a year old :-)

I'm just wondering - did you sleep train your two daughters too when they were young?

Mun - I did let Kat, my eldest, cry it out when she was 6 months old. At that time, I think the effects of being a first time mom just necessitated me doing so without breaking down like this!
I didn't do it for Chloe because had extremely terrible ezcema and needed someone to sleep with her and hold her hands when she slept, Or else she would scratch herself till she bled every night.

Hi Eileen, thanks for replying. I think you are doing a good job as a mother, bringing up all 3 children without paid help in a foreign land. I enjoy reading your posts!
