Mother's Day weekend

Happy Mother's Day to all my fellow mommies out there!
I hope you all had a great weekend, being pampered by your loving families :-)
I had a great weekend.

Saturday started off with our first trip to the Rio Grande Zoo in downtown Albuquerque.
First impressions? Parking is free. Yay! Thumbs up there. We always had to pay for parking at the zoos in the bay area.

The zoo itself is a little older, but with plenty of trees since it is by the Rio Grande river. So it was a very enjoyable walk around the zoo, even in the 80 degree weather in ABQ. We ended up getting a yearly membership, which also includes membership to the Aquarium. That will probably be our next outing.

After the zoo, we headed to the Route 66 Malt Shop on historic Route 66 aka Central Avenue. The restaurant itself is only 12 years old, but it has very interesting Route 66 memorabilia items. they even had the jukebox playing with 50-s music. Very cool. But Aiden did not appreciate the music. Probably because he wanted to sleep, and we know he needs his peace and quiet.

But most importantly the food was good!!! Homemade root beer, which was delicious. Apparently rated top 5 in the NATION.... Hubby had the crab cake sandwich and it was awesome. I had to try the blue cheese green chile burger, and it was a good burger. Don't think I'll order it the next time though. I'm eyeing the meatloaf sandwich. Yum....
Oh yes, and they had good milk shakes.

After that we stopped by Talin World Market to pick up some oriental groceries. We are thankful there are oriental markets here in ABQ. Was a little worried before we moved whether we could even find some Chinese grocery items :-)

On Mother's Day, we headed out to breakfast, and this time we went to the Flying Star Cafe. Very cool vibe, which reminded me of California. I had a delicious french toast and coconut cream pie. Ahhhh!! Then it was off to Walmart and Costco for some errands. A simple, yet fun Mother's Day this year.

Here are some pics:

Kat drew me this for Mother's Day. It's a picture of me and her

She made this in school. I did have a cup of tea from the attached tea bag.
