Baby Aiden

We would like to announce the arrival of our the latest addition to our family - Aiden, on 1/24/09 in the early hours of the morning.

Tiny Aiden, whose name means 'Little Fiery One' is certainly living up to his name.

He is very small - Only 5 lbs 15 oz (just 1 oz shy of 6 lbs), so he is the smallest of my children.
Usually subsequent babies do tend to be bigger. But I was joking with my mom-in-law that it's not wierd that I would have smaller babies, because I was so busy working. Haha! With Kat, I was doing nothing just eating and resting, whilst with Chloe I was working, and pregnant with Aiden I was working even more hours :-) And that does not include the fact that Chloe still wakes up in the middle of the night for one reason or another. Sigh... That's another story on it's own!

Anyways, our Aiden is also very 'fierce'.
Very much like his father, he is an extremely grouchy baby when he is hungry. He wakes up from his nap crying for milk. Hmm.. actually make that a screaming high pitch cry. He wanst his milk, and he wants it NOW!
Everyone who has heard him agrees that he has extremely big lungs compared to other babies.

The birth itself was the fastest among the 3.
We checked into the hospital the night before, and my doctor came in to break my bag of water at about 11pm and to start the Pitocin to induced labor. At that time the nurse told me I was 2cm dilated.

At 1.30am, the nurse checked me again, and I was only 3cm dilated. Here I am thinking that this will be a long night, just like the girls. At that time, the contractions were starting to get slightly unbearable, but I decided to hang in there a little longer to get to at least 4cm.

At 2.15am, I could not stand it any more. "Why I am torturing myself???!! I'm already on Pitocin!" I thought to myself. So I called the nurse and she called for the epidural.

Epidural was done a little while later, and I must say... that drug is god-sent. I was then looking forward to a couple of hours of sleep.

Little did I know, the epidural was actually helping the labor along very, very well. And I went from 3cm at 1.30am to 6cm in express time. Then, the labor went into overdrive, and I went from 6cm to fully dilated in just a couple of minutes. That time was crazy because here I was looking forward to some sleep, and there was everyone setting things up to deliver the baby. Haha!! Aiden then arrived after only 7 minutes of pushing.

Mommy and baby is doing well so far.
I feel fine, and am trying to rest as much as I can.
Aiden has some jaundice, so we have had to bring him back to get his blood tested the last 2 days, and will need to do so again on Friday.

Because of his juandice, he is a very sleepy baby. So nursing him has been difficult.
But I will try my best to breastfeed him as long as I can, just like I had nursed Chloe.

Alright.. got to go now. Baby is almost waking up :-)

Haven't downloaded pics of baby onto my laptop yet. Will try to upload pics another time.

Happy Chinese New Year everyone!!!

Congratulations again!

I said a prayer for you on the 24th and glad you had a quick & safe delivery. I'm sure you will do a good job breastfeeding him too.

Looking forward to see more pics of Aiden. Have you all decided on the Chinese name yet?
