It’s mid September already???
I really can’t believe how time flies – my baby is 5 months old, Kat moved to the 4 year old class in preschool, and it is moon cake season again.
There are moon cakes galore in the Chinese market we go to, and Kat wants to buy them all. My little girl just loves them and wishes they were available year round. That’s what she will ask for every time we go into a Chinese bakery.
Last year she was not too intrigued with the Chinese lantern that my mom got for her from Malaysia. Because it is the traditional kind, made out of glass paper, we kept telling her not to swing it and play with it too roughly. So I guess she got bored with it rather quickly. This reminds me that I have to dig it out again from the garage, and to get some Japanese lanterns. These are for the yard, and also for our friends’ kids when they come by this Saturday for a potluck party. Hopefully the moon is nice and kind of round already.

I guess I'm a purist (or maybe just old-fashioned), but I much prefer the glass paper lanterns with real candles in them than the modern plastic ones with electric bulbs. There is a magical charm with candles and paper that harks back to simpler times...
