Long 4-day weekend

Happy Belated Merdeka to Malaysia :-)
For us here, there was no celebration for that occasion (there is no consulate in SF).
But it was the Labor Day weekend. Woohoo!

Labor day in the US falls on the 1st Monday of September.
Isn't that weird? That's because if I remember correctly, the rest of the world celebrates Labor Day in May. My co-worker for the UK said that they celebrate Memorial Day in September, whilst here in the US, Memorial Day is in May! So screwy..

So, I got Monday off. And my company gives us Friday off too.
That's why it was a 4-day weekend.

Friday
Anyhoo.. it was Summer Carnival Day at Kathryn's school on Friday.
I managed to get hubby to 'work from home' on that day so that we can both go to Kat's school to play with her. She was so happy that we were both there, cause she was the only one with both parents there :-) There was a jumpy house, bubbles, water area, sno-cones, etc. We then had lunch with her in her classroom, with some picnic food e.g. hot dogs, chips, watermelon. Yummy! (I only had the chips and the watermelon. Beef makes Chloe itch, and I am not eating wheat, so no bread)

Saturday

Yummy breakfast at home, followed by chores around the house. Hubs took Kat out to the city by himself. They took a the BART out and then later in the afternoon I picked them up from Millbrae. So it was Kat's first time on the cable car, and first time at Rainforest cafe. They popped by Chinatown in an attempt to get some moon cakes for our favourite bakery in the city, Golden Gate Bakery. They are very famous for their egg tarts. People line out out the door to get some. And they do so well, that they can afford to close 2 months out of the year for some vacation time. Can you believe that! And so on that day, they were still closed. Bummer.

Then we were off to the home of Eldon and Faith for a BBQ. It was a very nice afternoon, with blue skies and not too warm weather.
There were yummy chicken tamales (Mexican dumplings / ‘Joong’), fresh oysters, beef steaks, potato salad and chips. Eldon’s mates were there to hang out and jam. It was loud, but Kat was enjoying the music and dancing to it.
And of course their bikes were discussed, which made hubby start thinking about getting one too. No dear, you may not get one.

Chloe was a darling and took a short nap in Anakin's crib after I nursed her. Yes, we actually have friends who named their son after Darth Vader from Star Wars.

Sunday
Breakfast at home, and then shopping at Target.
Tried to put Kat to nap, but she would not, so we went straight to Palo Alto for some fun.
There is a Whole Foods there where I can get some yummy food for myself.
Rice-based ice cream. Yay!!!
Allergen-free cookies. Yay!

After Whole Foods we met up with some friends at the Palo Alto Junior Musuem for the kids to play and to visit some animals. And boy, was it hot when we went to the playground after.

We did not linger very long there, and headed off to downtown Palo Alto for some Greek food. Hubs tried hummus for the first time, and did not like it that much. The lamb and beef gyro was yummy, as was my eggplant salad. Lan and Calrice split a baklava and that made me drool.
Later that night hubs and I had a date night. Well, if you call watching a movie in the dark the living room after the kids are asleep, a date.
Watched The Last King of Scotland, and that was pretty good. My expectations were not very high at first, probably because of the title. The Constant Gardener, which is another movie that I liked after I watched it, and thought the title was so odd.

Monday
Lazy morning, some grocery shopping at Ranch 99, and then followed by a Labor Day BBQ Korean style at our friends Michael and Soojung's place. It was good fun with the kids sliding and swimming in the little inflatable pool.
Chloe did great again - I nursed her and she fell asleep. I put her to sleep in the guest bedroom, and she napped for about 30 minutes. Not bad, cause she is never naps for longer than that.
Then Richard and Calrice and the boys came over for some dinner and chit chat.
Many thanks to MIL for making lotus root soup and stir-fry vegetables.
