Will she be ready?

Something that I have been thinking about too, since Kat was born on the last day of kindergarten cut-off date for us here in CA.

Please refer to one mom's thoughts on this

Kat will be moving on the 4 year old class this September, which is the Kindie prep class.
I can't imagine she is actually eligible for Kindergartne already next fall. Gulp!

But we shall see whether she actually moves one because:
  1. She is very petite, compared to the other kids in school. Will she be bullied? This is something that her teacher is working with her on i.e. to learn how to stand up for herself
  2. She needs to work on some of her motor skills. For eg. she can't throw a ball very well yet :-) I'm working with her on this. And other skills too, like using her scissors properly
  3. She has to work on her numbers! Math is something that she does not like. I am a little disappointed as I, myself is fairly good with math.
  4. Learn how to read. Kat knows her alphabets ages ago already.. but just does not seem to want to learn how to read. She just wants to be read to.

Well, I sometimes tell myself that Kat was induced on her birthday. I always have said that her due date given to us by our doctor was wrong. When she was born, supposedly 1 week late, she did not look like a baby that was overdue at all (i.e. wrinkly hands, chubby, etc)

Had we waited for a couple more days, she would have missed the cut-off date and we would not be in this dilemma now.

So we shall see how she progresses this new school year

Dear Eileen, don't worry , it got nothing to do with the induced birth. All that you mention (item 1 to 4) are sorry to say, in me as well -- Petite(yes); No motor skill (yes, i.e. i never learn to play any game with hand-eye coordination); Hate maths (definately true!); hate reading (yes, i can absorb a lot more by listening, not reading).
I think it's in the family gene....
